Well, my fic server has finally added so many adverts that the site navigation has become unusable. I'm thus going to make the sweeping change of moving my archive here.

And what better way to start than my poor, unsurprisingly underappreciated Jonas fic? It's not that bad, honest! It's even got Daniel in it - although admitedly he dies a number of times. And if that doesn't tempt you, take comfort from the fact there's no Felger...

[info]ankhsign asked for 5 fav fics.  So, here I am launching into the rec business...

1. TITLE: Stardust
AUTHOR: Kikkimax
URL: http://www.fanfic.otherplaces.net/stardust.htm
INFO
: Crossover with NCIS, mild slash (Daniel/Tony UST) - a man with no memory holds the key to three bizarre deaths.

Ok, so I've never seen NCIS and slash isn't really my thing.  Nevertheless, this is well written, and so cleverly uses Stargate backstory that I was drawn in.  Kikkimax also writes as Roxie, and pretty much all of her stories are good, long reads.

2. TITLE: Innocent Imprint
AUTHOR: Travelling One
URL:
http://homepage.mac.com/traveller1/travelling-one/imprint.htm
INFO: Gen - recurrent memory lapses put Daniel in danger.

Travelling One is another reliable author who works a nice twist into her Daniel-centric stories.  This one has long been my favourite of hers because I totally loved Daniel's bewildered denial. I confess though, I never could understand why SG-1 didn't triangulate his position from the mobile signal...

3. TITLE: Whipping Boy 101
AUTHOR: Lex
URL:
http://www.omnifera.com/tablet/lex.htm
INFO
: Gen - Daniel asks Jack for some serious lessons after the events of New Ground.

This one is quite silly, but has at its heart an interesting character study.  I love re-reading it, even now that I know what happens.

4. TITLE: Ripples
AUTHOR: ELG
URL:
http://www.bunnyfic.com/ELG/Ripples.htm
INFO
: Gen, H/C (read the warnings, author rates it R) - After the events of Shades of Grey, Daniel is kidnapped by a rogue offshoot of the NID and the rest of SG-1 are caught up in a race to save him.

What do you mean you haven't read this one?!  Well, it's hardly an original rec, but that doesn't diminish the fact that this is the fic which got me into fics, and will be forever beloved by me for that fact alone.

5. TITLE: Mine Eyes Have Seen
AUTHOR: Eve11
URL:
http://community.livejournal.com/dark_gate/4744.html#cutid1
INFO
: Gen - they were three days out of Restia when news filtered down the line that Zeph's company had caught themselves a Black Rat

There were a whole group of terrific fics which fell out of the Dark Gate challenge run earlier this year.  This is one of them, and it took me a while to get my head around it. Still, despite the bleakness, it was well worth the effort - a clever fic from an author I always enjoy.

Yippee! I came 4th in the Kawoosh TV Theme challenge, so I'm going to be the proud owner of a banner at some point over the next few days. Go me :-)

Oh, I'm so going to miss the last ferry. Still, I think I've managed to complete my very first songvid. I haven't linked it to Kawoosh yet - if it works I'll do that this weekend.

Here's the link (I think - it's still processing): http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=121DBBD4AA0B7AEC

I learnt a new thing today, and as everyone should learn something new each day,
Tada!  My first LJ cut!

While I'm feeling adventurous, I thought I'd drop in a LJ user and commiserate with [info]innocent_lexwho's had a rotten time with the weather.  Somehow my ship and I managed to escape the worst, but thank goodness I wasn't at sea.

Right, this tag stuff.  Aren't I meant to have a pick 'n' mix selection now?  Nope?  Guess, I'm going to have to remember them then...

So, back from sea!

BLBP didn't win, but I'm not surprised - and the story which did win the category is fun and by one of my fav authors.

The next story is progressing in fits and starts. More in fits, to be honest as I'm still not sure how any of the 4 to 5 interweaving plots are actually going to pan out. Hey ho, it's something to do on those stormy nights in mid ocean anyway.

And Christmas is nearly here. How did that happen? And how did it happen without me obtaining a single present? Currently glumly reviewing whether to join the panic buyers or become a bah-humbug voucher giver. The latter is looking promising...

As Dumbledore, you are talented, intelligent and powerful!
You may prefer to be in a leadership position,
and always uphold what is right.
You set trends with your crazy beard.

So there you go.  Clearly nothing whatsoever to do with Stargate fic, but I do so love filling in these quizzes.  The questions are usually so obviously trying to fit you into a particular character.  Are you intelligent?  Yes = Hermione. No = look at the answer to the next question.  Are you brave? Yes = Harry.  No = look at the answer to the next question.  Am I too cynical?  Probably.   But I believe I am also talented, intelligent and powerful now too :-)

Just done a redesign of my LJ, and I love it so much I had to try it out. Pretty, coordinated colours! Fixed background! Mouseovers which match my website!

Fic has stalled. Not surprised really, I'm rubbish at actually doing the writing. But I quite like the way Teal'c part has turned out so far...

“I was abducted by aliens, once,” the woman beside Teal’c confided.

Gazing into the night sky, Teal’c permitted himself a smile. “As was I. It was a most unpleasant experience.” He looked down at the woman. “Nevertheless, we should take comfort that this planet’s most fearsome warriors are nearby tonight. I believe we will come to no harm.”

The woman winked at her friends. “I wouldn’t exactly call us ‘warriors’!” She rummaged at her feet and pulled out a crumpled paper bag. “Cookie?”

Teal’c was still munching when their Alien Guide set off the first Landing Beacon. The device zipped into the sky and exploded in a charming variety of colors, sure to be admired by any other stray aliens in the vicinity. After a few moments, dry ice crept into the clearing. Teal’c nodded his quiet approval amid the oohs and ahhs. This was Alien Hunting as it should be done.

It's Bright Lights again. Saves on the site preparation needed: I'll just move the page out of frames for the period of the award and reset it after. Is Bright Lights my best fanfic? Dunno. It's the only one I've really had meaningful feedback on, perhaps because it's the only one people can find and more likely because it's the most obviously crowd pleasing (being an out and out Danny-whumper).

Which leads on to the fact I've decided - in the light of recent unnamed spoilers - to go dark with the ending of my current Danny-whumper.  Unfortunately, as ever, great plot (well, imo!), but slow, slow writing. Maybe I should try to find a co-author to help me?

Still waiting to find which story got the nom (and I forgot to say 'thank you, kind anonymous person who nommed me!'), but in the meantime I've done a bit of sorting out on the site. Nothing major - I simply jiggled all the story ratings and double-checked all the links.

I'm also slowly, oh so slowly, working on my next fic. The plot has weathered my usual terminal stutter once I start writing, but I'm waiting on inspiration for my conclusion: do I press the reset button and return SG-1 as I found them, or do I acknowledge that you don't jump back from some things? This Depressing v Disney debate is likely to continue for some time as I have no plot envisaged for either!

Ooooo! I've been nominated in the 2006 Stargate Fan Awards. All hands to the stories - you can never do enough checking of spellings and suchlike. Yes, I know that all errors should be ironed out before posting... but heavens knows how many times I've re-read Bright Lights for instance and I'm still finding mistakes. I'm now all a-tizz to see which of my darlings is up for the vote.

Of course, by the time the results come out, I'll be back at sea - but you can't have everything, can you?

Updated my site a bit - just hiding the odd dead link and showing all the statistics I've been faithfully collecting on usage data.

Of particular coolness though, worth noting that I am now up to two - yes 2 - brave souls who have decided to use my feedback form. Almost enough to encourage me to put finger to keypad again...

So, this huge empty space has been sitting here for a while. And I'm thinking, what to do with it?

And as so often with these things, the idea grows for a while, then becomes the most obvious solution... I'm gonna link it to my fic site. So, check it out if you feel brave enough.
